Richard’s  Story

Richard grew up in the inner city of Los Angeles and moved to Kent, WA as he was entering 7th grade. While in L.A. He’s experienced a life surrounded by drugs, violence, and gang activity. Nearly destroyed before his life even began Richard’s parents found them selves frustrated with their son but also full of hope. Fueled with the belief that their son, given a chance and coached properly could make a change, Richard’s parents decided to give him a second chance at life and moved their family to the Seattle area where his gift as an athlete emerged. And his natural gifting stirred a passion in him to become great. His athletic ability and steadfast work ethic brought the attention of national powerhouse schools such as USC, Nebraska, Miami, Michigan, and Notre Dame.  Richard suddenly found himself competing at an elite level as a blue chip student athlete. However, he continued to struggle academically and graduated high school with a  1.9 GPA.

Fortunately for Richard, the school of his choice, the University of Washington, took a chance on him and offered him a full ride scholarship while helping him organize his thoughts and life around his potential. It was there he took responsibility for his own failure and success and excelled in his studies despite the demands placed him as a student athlete.  Richard’s hard work paid off on graduation day with a 3.6 GPA and two degrees even though he had discovered he had a learning disability called dyslexia. With stellar athletic accomplishments such as becoming the Huskies’ team co-captain, helping to lead his team to three Pac 10 titles, participating on Washington's greatest team ever the 1991 National Championship team, and playing alongside some of the all time Husky greats while earning team and league awards; NFL stardom and the fruit of his hard work and dreams seemed imminent.

Shortly after his senior season Richard found himself in the NFL where in 1996 he played a season with the Baltimore Ravens. Ironically, it was while he was living out his own dream with the Ravens that Richard realized his greatest passion of all was encouraging people to overcome obstacles and reach their full potential. As a youth specialist, Richard travels the nation challenging his audience to rise above the statistics and avoid the pitfalls of following the crowd, An avid storyteller, Richard communicates in a style that is equally hilarious, educational and gripping.   Leaving his own indelible mark in each student’s mind that urges them to take the initiative to succeed academically, socially, and in every aspect of their life.

He has since founded Richard On Campus and written 10 dynamic curricula.   His campus curricula are poignant, effective, and most of all relevant to situations with which every young person is challenged today. Richard understands that often times a young person would rather laugh then learn and rather be entertained then educated.  That is why Richard's sessions are high energy, humorous, and captivating creating a memorable atmosphere while young people feel
compelled to learn as they laugh and are educated while being entertained. No long boring sessions here.  He, his wife Christie, and their 3 children live in Seattle, WA.

Your students will love listening to Richard and they will undoubtedly walk away with wisdom and hope that will impact them for a lifetime.
